Come see what’s new at the 11th Annual Blooming Bardstown Garden Tour and Marketplace on June 7. Fabulous private gardens and a walking tour of downtown Bardstown gardens are on this year’s self-guided tour that runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Ponds with peaceful waterfalls, vegetable gardens, creative outdoor “rooms,” container gardening, sun and shade gardens, and comfortable outdoor dining areas are included on the tour of selected gardens in Bardstown and Nelson County. There also will be features such as pergolas, rain barrels, ornamental grasses, multilevel decks, wooded paths and enough garden art to keep you smiling all day. Plus a demonstration garden at the Nelson County Extension Office, 317 South Third Street, where the tour begins.
The Marketplace will be open at the Extension Office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The purchase of a tour ticket is not necessary to enjoy the events at the Marketplace. Visitors can purchase garden tour tickets, grab a bite to eat, visit the Nelson County Homemakers/4-H bake sale, sign up for the door prize, and check out informational exhibits on garden related topics. Guests also will be able to submit their bids in a silent auction. Items available for bid in the silent auction include a one-hour plane ride for up to 3 people, a one-night stay for up to 8 people at the Bernheim Lake House, gift baskets from local distilleries, handcrafted garden art, plenty of gift certificates from generous contributors, and much, much more. Also included in this year’s auction is the daylily the Master Gardeners had created and named for Officer Jason Ellis, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last May. Proceeds from the winning bid on the daylily will go to the Ellis family.
Local vendors will have garden-related items for sale, and the Kentucky Home Master Gardeners, who sponsor the event, will be selling annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants and flower seeds at the Marketplace. They also be will selling handcrafted items for the garden such as birdhouses, steppingstones and uniquely planted containers, along with gardening magazines and books and wonderfully creative yard art. In addition, local artists will be selling their garden-inspired artwork.
Tour tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of tour and $7 per person for groups of 10 or more at the Extension Office at 317 South Third Street and the Tourist Commission at One Court Square in Bardstown.
