Auction Set for January 30 at Land Between The Lakes
A public auction to reduce the size of the bison herds at Land Between The Lakes will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Auction begins at 9am Central Standard Time at the South Bison Range corral. Bidder registration, final sale list, and viewing begin at 8am. Bison purchases may be made with cash, credit card, or personal check at time of bid acceptance.
The South Bison Range corral is located on the west side of Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway (TN 461) approximately 2.75 miles south of the Kentucky/Tennessee state line, and just south of the Homeplace 1850s Farm in Dover, TN. GPS coordinates: N36° 39’ 2.354” W87° 58’ 39.867”.
The Forest Service will sell approximately 40 bison to the highest bidder, including:
· 6 cows born 1996-1999
· 1 cow born in 2009
· 2 bulls born in 2013
· 4 cows born in 2014
· 10 bulls born in 2014
· 17 calves born in 2015 (genders to be determined during week of auction)
All animals will be tested for brucellosis and tuberculosis by a licensed veterinarian before the auction. Preliminary details regarding the age, sex, and weights of all animals to be sold will be available after Wednesday, January 27, with the final list available at 8am on day of sale. For a preliminary list or any questions, contact Curtis Fowler at 270-924-2061 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Because of the size and temperament, closed-topped trailers or vehicles are required to transport bison. Once bison step off the loading chute and into a buyer’s trailer, the animal becomes the property and responsibility of the buyer. Buyers must load animals immediately following the auction. For an additional fee, arrangements can be made at time of payment to load bison Monday, February 1, 2016.
An on-site veterinarian will issue health certificates as required for interstate transport immediately after the auction. Additional services may be purchased from the on-site veterinarian by cash or check to include vaccinations at time of bid acceptance. Know what vaccinations are required for your state.
Import permits will be available for Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, and North Carolina. Buyers are responsible for knowing import regulations of the home state before purchasing a bison. Some states have specific requirements as to age and vaccinations. If buyers need a different state import permit than listed, contact Curtis Fowler at 270-924-2061 on or before Monday, January 25, for it to be available at time of sale.
