Dr. Scott Garrett: Patriotism and the Ongoing American Experience
Friday, May 6, 2016 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Dr. Scott Garrett will discuss American-style patriotism in its historical context from the earliest days of our Republic down to the present.
Dr. Garrett, Professor Emeritus of History, University of Kentucky System, retired from West Kentucky Community & Technical College in 2015 and the U.S. Army in 2010. From 2000 through 2009, he was concurrently assigned to the U.S. Army Center of Military History (Fort McNair, DC) and the Joint Staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Pentagon). This required Garrett to carry out thirteen overseas assignments, including three combat tours in the Middle East. Since Garrett is both an historian and experienced field soldier, this gives him a unique perspective of the current issues in the Middle East and their relation to the rest of the world.
Garrett is the 2015 Distinguished Veteran recipient.
