The Jenny Johnson Band at Maiden Alley Cinema
With The Storm Crows
Jenny Johnson is an Americana, soul-singing, guitar-picking, singer-songwriter of her own tunes from the damp backwoods of Southern Illinois. Her songs and style produce a powerful and engaging performance that can stir your soul, move your feet or lighten your heart with every tune.
Jenny has created a style all her own through an amalgam of bluegrass, soul, ragtime, jazz and folk music. In 2014 she released her debut solo album, Torch Ditties, recorded entirely at the Old Feed Store to include additional live tracks. She most recently filmed the pilot episode for a new PBS series showcasing Southern Illinois musicians entitled, Little Egypt Live, set to air summer of 2015.
The Storm Crows love sad songs. We can and do play a few happy ones, but our favorite thing to do is write and cover the saddest songs we've ever heard. From our own Janis Esch and our dear friend Jenny Johnson, to Darrell Scott, the Steeldrivers, and even Jason Isbell: if it's sad, we want to play it.
This is music to drink to, cry to, or hold someone you love to. So come hang out with us, dance to a sad song, sing along if you know the words. Grief is not to be feared.
Admission: $8 | $10 at the door.
