The Boxcars at the Lancaster Theatre
The Lancaster Grand Theatre welcomes back The Boxcars for their third visit, with a special guest to be announced soon. The Boxcars, formed in late 2009, has often been referred to as a “Bluegrass supergroup,” earning praise and a slew of industry awards attributable to the level of talent and storied careers of members Adam Steffey, Ron Stewart, John Bowman, Keith Garrett and Harold Nixon. The band won International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Group of the Year for 2011, 2012, and 2013, and Steffey won the award of 2013 IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year. Their album It’s Just a Road was nominated for 2014 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy. The band’s wide-ranging versatility is demonstrated by their impressive variety of musical elements – which includes Swing, Old Time, Gospel and Bluegrass.
These guys have been integral parts of many outstanding and award-winning bands over the years, including Alison Krauss & Union Station, the Lonesome River Band, Blue Moon Rising, the Dan Tyminski Band, J. D. Crowe & The New South, Dusty Miller, the Lynn Morris Band, and Blue Moon Rising. Between them, they hold dozens of IBMA awards, GRAMMY awards and nominations, and other accolades. They don’t sound like anyone else, but yet they capture the excitement of the seminal bands that preceded them in the genre and combine it with cutting-edge sounds of modern bluegrass music. The result is – well, magical. There is no substitute for chemistry between band members, and these guys have it.
