The Karaoke Machine at The Mercury Ballroom
Returning to the Mercury Ballroom after a wildly fun night last December, The Karaoke Machine is a live karaoke experience. Be a star as the front man/woman to a live band playing the song of your choosing! Abiding by the same rules as normal karaoke, vocalists pick a rocking tune out of the song book, then hop on stage, take the mic, and let their vocal chords vibrate as live instruments carry the music. More high energy and entertaining than a standard karaoke night, The Karaoke Machine let's you shine on a stage that is reserved for renowned, touring musicians!THE KARAOKE MACHINE has been making rock n' roll dreams come true for aspiring vocalists in and around the Bloomington, IN area since 2009, when Tyler Damon, Jason Evans Groth, Alex Mann, and Evan Whikehart came together to combine decades of live music experience from original international touring bands. As four mainstays of the Bloomington music scene, these rockers also cut their teeth in countless local groups before creating The Machine, often in different combinations with one another:
Initially focusing on hits from the 1990s, The Karaoke Machine has built up an impressive repertoire of 120+ songs over the past 5 years that now covers 7 decades and numerous genres of pop music. From the sexy soul of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" to the frenetic metal of Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized," from the smooth hip-hop of R. Kelly's "Ignition (Remix)" to the fist-pumps of the original Riot Grrrl anthem "Cherry Bomb" by TheRunaways, and from the alternative hits of Liz Phair and The Breeders to the classic rock of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, The Machine offers something for everyone's live band fantasy. The members especially enjoy playing the "deep cuts" they offer that are hard to find in other karaoke settings, including tunes from artists like Television, Big Star, 'Til Tuesday, and Ty Segall, among many others.
