UofL School of Music New Music Festival
The School of Music at the University of Louisville is widely recognized for its commitment to the presentation of contemporary music. In keeping with this commitment, we are proud to present this year’s New Music Festival. Premiered in 1998, the Festival is forging an important tradition that highlights innovation and creativity, two hallmarks of our School’s mission. Past festivals have featured acclaimed composers and artists from around the world representing an exciting variety of styles, media, and techniques. Of particular note are past festival artists whose works have been honored by our prestigious Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition.
This year, we are delighted to feature Minnesota native Sky Macklay. A composer, oboist, and installation artist, Dr. Macklay’s bold and engaging works have been reviewed in The Chicago Tribute, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Strad Magazine, and in other publications, both in the US and abroad. Her numerous accolades include a Grammy nomination, two ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards, and many other commissions and prizes.
