Art Camps at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art
The first of the 2016 FREE ART CAMPS at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art is scheduled to coincide with Spring Break, April 5 to 8 for ages 6 to 15.
Classes will take place under canopies in Ryan Park and, in case of inclement weather, they will be moved to ARTLAND, the museum's interactive art studio for children.
Art Camp I will feature guided tours of the exhibition "Owensboro Art Guild 54th Annual Juried Exhibition," led by artists in the exhibition, and will be followed by classes where instruction will be given by the artists. Each camp participant will create works of art based upon a style or media on display in the exhibition. One work from each camper will be chosen for display in the museum's Waymond O. Morris Young At Art Gallery June through August.
Morning sessions scheduled 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. are designed for ages 6 to 9
and afternoon classes from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. are planned for ages 10 to 15.
Instructors for the four-day camp will include Owensboro artists Rex Robinson and Ann Craddock Bruner. Robinson is recognized for his narrative paintings documenting the cultural heritage of the region, and Bruner is known for her equestrian paintings and portraits. Both artists are also art educators who have taught in the local school systems.
The free camp programming, now in its 11th season, is sponsored by Owensboro
Grain Company and is the only local fine arts camp specifically designed to reach the community's financially challenged children. Half of the seats in each class are reserved for registrants from local community service organizations. After those are filled, reservations from the general public are confirmed.
Registration deadline for Art Camp I is March 28 and may be completed by
