Bellevue's Storybook Stroll
Seckatary Hawkins, the main character in a series of beloved books, newspaper serials and radio shows written by Covington, KY, author Robert F. Schulkers, will come back to life March 19 as part of downtown Bellevue's Storybook Stroll.
Schulkers' stories, which stressed such values as loyalty, honesty, friendship and patriotism, led to the birth of the Fair & Square Clubs of Seckatary Hawkins in 1923, with the motto: "A quitter never wins and a winner never quits." The club, along with Behringer-Crawford Museum, will present a display of "Seck" Hawkins books and artifacts at the Frame & Hang Studio and Gallery at 401 Fairfield Avenue, Bellevue. Club members will read aloud from from the Hawkins' books between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Storybook Stroll is one of Bellevue's monthly Third Saturday Celebrations, family-friendly daytime events along Fairfield Avenue.
