The Centennial Festival of Riverboats, a six-day celebration of the nation’s majestic waterway riverboats, will take place with memorable cruises, supplemented by an exciting mix of land-based activities, including music, food, bourbon and art along the banks of Louisville’s Waterfront Park.
The Centennial Festival of Riverboats will mark the signature 100th anniversary of the Belle of Louisville, the oldest operating Mississippi-style steamboat in the world. While the Belle will be the main attraction, other riverboats from several great American cities will join the festival. Those include the Belle of Cincinnati, the River Queen (Cincinnati), the Spirit of Peoria, the American Queen (Memphis), and the Spirit of Jefferson (Louisville).
To ensure this event stays afloat, SweetWater Brewing Company, Old Forester and Louisville’s Old 502 Winery will be the official alcoholic beverage sponsors of the Centennial Festival of Riverboats. Other vendors include the local ice-creamery Comfy Cow and Coca-Cola.
This rare collection of riverboats will commemorate their significance and how they once forged the nation’s waterways to support the fledgling economies of small river towns that are now thriving metropolitan centers. The Centennial Celebration of Riverboats will serve as a national celebration of our nation’s history, along with today’s love of music, food and culture.
