The Georgetown Fire Department will kick off the Festival of the Horse activities on Thursday evening, October 2, 2014, with the 13th annual Fireman’s Chili Cook-off. Join in the fun and sample many different chilis. A great family night out for four under $20! ($4 a cup). Proceeds go to Toys for Tots for Georgetown/Scott County. The Festival of the Horse will take place on the streets of downtown Georgetown October 3-5. This annual event will celebrate its 34th anniversary in in 2014l. The Festival of the Horse has promoted Scott County’s horse heritage, the downtown community and the interaction between the two for the past 34 years. Family-oriented activities and entertainment are featured.
Friday highlights include the Colt and Filly Children’s Parade, the Fun-time Carnival, live entertainment, displays, arts & crafts, and of course, those wonderful food vendors! Saturday features Grand Horse Parade, petting zoo, pony rides, Kid Zone, and more great food and live entertainment. The petting zoo, pony rides, and Kid Zone will be at Royal Spring Park. Sunday winds down the weekend with a pet parade, blessing of the animals, horse show, musical shows on the Main Stage, and additional activities and entertainment.
All events are free. Located in downtown Georgetown, festival hours are: Friday. noon-9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
