For more than a half-century, Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC), America’s original professional jazz dance company, has captivated audiences worldwide with highly energetic performances and innovative jazz dance choreography to audiences from all ethnic backgrounds.
GDC is popular for programming a wide diversity of dance styles and genres including jazz, Latin, modern, ballroom, contemporary, and African. GDC continues to promote ethnic diversity with its wide range of choreographers and works highlighting different cultures.
At the end of the hour, students have the chance to get to know the performers in a question-and-answer session.
Exit 4, a contemporary work by Israeli-born choreographer Roni Koresh, is influenced by Yemeni folk dance and the cultural dynamics of war-torn Israel. GDC taps into the Hispanic culture with La Belleza de Cuba, Los Angeles based choreographer Liz Imperio’s full-bodied tribute to the jazz of Cuba’s streets and nightclubs, and Kiesha Lalama’s work Alegria, a sunburst of lyrical dancing with a hint of Spanish flair.
