Grammy Award-winning American Rock band, StoneTemple Pilots will be performing at the Louisville Palace on Wednesday, September 23.Stone Temple Pilots (commonly referred to as “STP”) consisting of Chester Bennington (vocals), brothers Robert DeLeo (bass guitar, vocals) and Dean DeLeo (guitar), and Eric Kretz (drums, percussion). The band was originally active from 1986 to 2003, and reunited in 2008.The band’s five studio albums have sold over 17 million copies in the United States alone. The band has had fifteen top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, including six number ones, and one number one album on the pop charts (1994’s Purple). In 1993, the band won a Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for their song “Plush”. Stone Temple Pilots were also ranked at number 40 on VH1’s The 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. In 2003, the band released the greatest hits compilation.
This spring, the DeLeos are returning to their home turf with a mission: $1 from every ticket sold for the band's current tour will be donated to Music for Relief, a nonprofit organization dedicated to disaster relief and environmental protection. The funds will support-long term New Jersey recovery from 2012's super-storm, Sandy, including housing assistance, home repairs, mental health and social services and tree planting.
"I grew up there, I was there my whole life, and (Sandy) was the biggest tragedy our beautiful state had ever experienced," DeLeo said. Along with aiding in New Jersey's recovery, Stone Temple Pilots is in the midst of its own renaissance: the band's line-up currently includes lead singer Chester Bennington, best known for his work with Linkin Park "You've got a guy that's on fire right now, that's in his mid-30s, attacking this material," DeLeo said of Bennington's work with the band. "Chester raises the bar for Robert, Eric (Kretz, drums) and myself. There's an excitement from Chester, and he knows what he needs to bring to the table if he's going to be doing this legacy justice."
