Kentucky Society of Washington to Host 35th Annual Pre-Derby Party
The Kentucky Society of Washington will host the 35th Annual Pre-Kentucky Derby Party on Sunday, May 1st at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia. This popular spring affair will be held in the house gardens from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm to celebrate the Commonwealth’s greatest event and one of our nation’s most beloved horse racing traditions – the Kentucky Derby. The event is expected to draw hundreds of attendees.
Classic elements of the party will make their appearance: mint juleps made with long-time sponsor Maker's Mark, fried chicken and biscuits supplied by KFC, other homemade treats from the kitchens of Kentucky natives, live bluegrass music and more. As always, attendees will vote on best hat and can participate in the silent auction for exciting items from the Commonwealth and the DC area to benefit the Kentucky Society. From the colorful bow ties to the classic beer cheese, this gathering brings the Kentucky Derby to our Nation's Capital.
"There is nothing like our Pre-Derby Party before the Run for the Roses," said President of the Kentucky Society of Washington, Anne Berry. "Not only does it bring together native Kentuckians living in the District, but it also exposes Washingtonians from all states and walks of life to our Bluegrass heritage. We're proud of our culture and are thrilled to share this afternoon with anyone who wants to join us."
Tickets are currently on sale for members, who can purchase packages at a special rate until April 15th. After this date, discounts may not be available as general tickets will be on sale until April 30th. The Society is also excited to accept new sponsors for the event, as the party presents businesses with a unique opportunity to expose their products and entertain clients.
"It truly is one of the ‘can't miss’ events each spring," says Berry. "Whether you're a lifelong member of the Kentucky Society or you've never set foot in the Bluegrass, you'll leave our Pre-Derby Party feeling like you've spent your afternoon in our old Kentucky home."
