Shine relocates from NuLu to newly renovated space at Clifton Center
Local music and movement studio opens its doors for a fun and festive community event Aug. 29
Saturday, Aug. 29, Shine studio will host a celebratory open house featuring free demonstrations of their offerings and live music at its new location in the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne St., studio 305. Previously located in downtown Louisville, Shine’s new space provides more opportunities to bring harmony to the body and mind through programs such as Ageless Grace, Music Together, the MELT Method and their signature offering, the Nia Technique. A blend of yoga, martial arts and dance, Nia is appropriate for people at any fitness level and requires no prior experience. As a festive and family-friendly introduction, Shine’s open house will feature free demonstrations throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., along with live music, a silent auction, raffle and bake sale. “We are excited to move to Clifton and become a part of the Frankfort Avenue community,” said Shine owner and instructor Maria Whitley. “Our classes provide endless benefits for the body, mind and spirit, and it is our desire to provide a fun and convenient outlet for individual expression, whether you are bringing your child to Music Together or coming to get a workout.”
On Aug. 29, beginning at 9 a.m. with Morning Nia, attendees may take part in 45-60 minute workouts including Ageless Grace, Awareness Through Movement, MELT method, Hoop Dance and Belly Dance, as well as a Music Together demo for families with young children at 10 a.m. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will occur at 1 p.m. Live music begins at 6 p.m., featuring a traditional acoustic set including Julia Purcell of Maiden Radio, Maria Whitley, Maggie Soeder, Dave Howard of 23 String Band and Louisville Folk School, John Fauver and Gregg Rochman.
Shine is a wellness studio located at 2117 Payne St., studio 305 in Louisville serving the community through music, movement and bodywork. Founded in 2007, the family-centered organization offers programs for all age groups. Shine’s owner and creative director Maria Whitley has been practicing Nia since 2008 and is a brown belt Nia instructor. She is also a certified Ageless Grace educator, Reiki master and Vedic Thai yoga practitioner and teaches a variety of classes at Shine, including Music Together, early childhood music and movement.
