Silks in the Bluegrass, on behalf of Operation Open Arms, Inc., is pleased to announce that Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Hollywood legends Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, will perform at our sixth annual charity benefit on Derby night, May 3, 2014.
Ms. Arnaz is currently on tour out west with her Latin Roots big band show, which is a story about the genesis of her love affair with music and a tribute to her father, the man who introduced it to her.
The Golden Globe nominated performer and Emmy award winner has been in show business more than 45 years. At 15 years old, she began appearing regularly on her mother’s TV show, The Lucy Show, which ran for six seasons. Lucie starred in her own series, The Lucie Arnaz Show and later in the critically acclaimed Sons & Daughters on CBS. On the big screen, she starred opposite Neil Diamond and Sir Laurence Olivier in The Jazz Singer, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. Ms. Arnaz has starred in several made for television films and played many of the best women’s roles in the theatre.
“We’re looking forward to Lucie Arnaz lighting up the stage in a performance that is guaranteed to be full of energy. It’s an honor to have the daughter of Hollywood legends Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, who brought memorable entertainment and laughter into our homes, visit Kentucky and experience the festivities and celebration of Derby weekend and help our kids at Operation Open Arms here in Kentucky,” said Cathy Bailey, Board Chair for Operation Open Arms, Inc. Operation Open Arms, Inc. is a Louisville, Kentucky-based non-profit organization founded by Cathy and Irv Bailey that provides care for children whose mothers are incarcerated.
The Silks in the Bluegrass celebration includes cocktails, dinner and entertainment at the Crowne Plaza Louisville Hotel, just a few minutes from Churchill Downs. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event cost $250 per person.
