StageOne Family Theatre is proud to present Jackie and Me at the Kentucky Center on February 23, celebrating baseball legend and hero Jackie Robinson! The story follows Joey Stoshack, a headstrong young boy with a special talent for time travel. Assigned to write a report on an African American who has made an important contribution to society, Joey travels back in time to 1947, meeting one of history's greatest baseball players, Jackie Robinson; a meeting that will forever change his view of history and his definition of courage.
From playwright Steven Dietz, Jackie and Me explores racial issues in the U.S. and its effect on Robinson as a major league ballplayer, including Robinson's long time relationship with fellow major leaguer (and Louisville's own) PeeWee Reese. This production will be seen by over 20,000 students at the Kentucky Center and the Ogle Center on the campus of Indiana University Southeast. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
The public performance date of Jackie and Me will be February 23 at 2pm and 5pm at the Kentucky Center. Single tickets are available through The Kentucky Center for $19.75 each. To purchase, call 502.584.7777, come by the Kentucky Center box office drive-thru at 501 W. Main Street, or go online to www.kentuckycenter.org.
