Located in the heart of the Bluegrass, Elmwood Stock Farm has many quintessential Kentucky woodland pasture tree species on its 550 acres. In fact, Elmwood is mentioned in Tom Kimmerer's Venerable Trees book: "Not surprisingly, the trees in the woodland pastures at Elmwood Stock Farm are thriving."
The Elmwood Stock Farm Trees in the Bluegrass Tour offers a guided tour of the Oak, Catalpa, Kentucky Coffeetree, Ash, Walnut, Hickory, Maple, Sycamore, and other species that are found on this farm and throughout the region. Elmwood's Mac Stone will talk about why preserving these old, grand trees is a priority on the farm and how the farm's organic commitment allows and even encourages their preservation. Guests will also have an overview of Kentucky woodland pastures and learn tree identification and characteristics for approximately 10 must-know trees. Everyone should leave this tour appreciating the trees at Elmwood and across the Bluegrass.

Elmwood Stock Farm, in Georgetown, Ky., is a 6th-generation family farm that began as a producer of Black Angus breeding-stock cattle. The cattle are still an important part of the farm ecosystem and farm business, though over the past decade, the farm has branched out to produce a variety of organic vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, tobacco and even compost. Elmwood is committed to healthy and wholesome production of superior, high-quality, fresh farm products. Organic certification and close family involvement ensure that safe and sustainable farming practices are followed, livestock are well cared for, and land and water conservation remain a priority. Elmwood's produce, eggs and meats can be found at farmers markets, local restaurants and grocery stores, and through its CSA programs in Kentucky and Ohio.
