A new Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee victor—v-i-c-t-o-r—will be crowned in Louisville on Saturday, March 15. More than 60 fourth- to eighth-grade students from across the state will compete for Bee bragging rights, a title that for four years was held by Emily Keaton. The Pike County teen, now a ninth-grader, is no longer eligible to compete, so the emergence—e-m-e-r-g-e-n-c-e—of a new champion is nigh.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Kosair Shrine Club Ballroom at Spalding University, 812 S. Second Street, Louisville. The competition begins at 11 a.m.
