Summer Dinner
Fireflies, bourbon, a horse cantering about a lush field, a hand-hewn picnic table in a shady green corner, strumming guitar. Golden late afternoon sunlight filtering through the leaves to lend a glow to the fairy-tale setting. Three or four dozen people mixing and mingling, ice clinking in the cocktail jars as laughter fills the warm air.
It was a summer dream’s dinner, except it was real.
I had the happy occasion to join the inaugural dinner of the Original Makers Club dinner series – a planned monthly event that will take dinner out to an entirely new level. These family style dinners will bring together some of the top chefs in and around Louisville with live entertainment, fantasy table settings, creative and unexpected dinner sites, and whimsical touches like the horse and rider at last night’s dinner.
We dined on a bountiful feast from Rye, with must-have-seconds cake from Please & Thank You for dessert, talking a a mile a minute with new friends and didn’t, reluctantly, leave until we’d passed some four hours under the trees.
I already can’t wait for the next one.
