Built in 1923, Louisville’s The Brown Hotel in October launched a new cocktail menu inspired by libations served throughout its 90-year history. The quintessential – and perhaps original – party drink is punch, which is believed to have originated in India and been introduced by sailors to European revelers in the early 17th century. A good rule of thumb when creating a punch is that it must have five ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 oz. Cruzan aged rum
½ oz. Barenjager honey liqueur
1 oz. pineapple juice
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. double brewed hibiscus tea
Freshly grated nutmeg
Rum-soaked berries
Fresh mint
Preparation:
Fill a wine goblet with ice and add rum, honey liqueur, juices and tea. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, rum-soaked berries and mint.
