Marion Flexner shared numerous recipes for “sippages” in her 1949 cookbook Out of Kentucky Kitchens. She called this punch a “favorite Louisville Christmas beverage.” We think it makes for a fine start to your Thanksgiving holiday.
(35 to 40 punch cups)
Ingredients:
Juice of one dozen lemons
1 quart carbonated water
1⁄2 pint maraschino liqueur
1 pint brandy
Powdered sugar to taste
2 cups strong tea (optional)
1⁄2 pint curaçao
2 quarts champagne
Fruits for decorating
Preparation:
Mix lemon juice with carbonated water. Sweeten to taste with powdered sugar. The strong tea may be added if desired but it is optional. Place a large block of ice in a punch bowl. Pour the mixture over it and add the maraschino liqueur, curaçao, brandy and champagne. Mix well and decorate with fruits in season. Ladle into punch cups. This recipe easily can be halved or quartered if you are serving a smaller crowd.
